Formed in 1987, the Stillwater Bass Club is one of the few pure river fishing clubs in the state of Ohio. As our name implies, we primarily fish the Stillwater River and its major tributary, Greenville Creek, as well as the Miami River. Blessed with one of the finest smallmouth bass fisheries in Ohio, we are dedicated to the restoration and preservation of these rivers. The Stillwater is one of the ten designated Scenic Rivers in Ohio.
Each year, club members participate in 14 "paper" tournaments beginning in April and ending in November. If you want to learn to catch more and bigger smallies, you've come to the right place. We have a great group of members from all walks of life who share in one passion: river fishing for Ohio's native smallmouth bass. We stress fun, information sharing, and learning new tactics over money and who comes in first place. These rivers are best fished in small light boats with electric motors, and if you don't have one, don't worry, our club members have enough "pond prowlers" or jon boats to accommodate everyone. Drawing numbers for 2 man teams as well as some "pick your partner" tournies ensure a variety of members fish with each other. These tournaments are a mix of Saturday and Sundays 8 hour events, and cover some very scenic waters while fishing for big smallmouth and some largemouths too.
We hold evening meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. During the winter months our meetings feature a guest speaker as well as fund raising events. Summer meetings are held at various bridge sites along the rivers and include clean-ups, tree plantings, stream sampling, before discussing new and old business. Also, we put on "Kids Fishing Derbies" with bait and prizes to provide a lifelong appreciation of fishing and nature.
Whether it's fishing our tournaments, helping with conservation, improving river smallie experiences, or swapping stories about the 17 incher that got away, the Stillwater Bass Club offers an extremely inexpensive (Yearly membership dues are $20) way to share with fellow river rats your experiences. See ya' on the river!
